6th Annual Community of Character Walk

The annual Community of Character Walk has enjoyed great success! The Zion Police Department and the Zion Park District are pleased to announce that the 6th Annual Community of Character Walk will take place on Thursday, 9/12/2019, at 6:00 pm.
The 6th Annual Zion Community of Character Walk is, once again, an opportunity to:
- Celebrate all the good things happening in Zion!
- Come together as a community in support of Zion!
- Meet neighbors and make new friends with people who are also working to make Zion a better place!
The walk will start at the Bandshell next to the Zion Park District Leisure Center. Participants will then walk west approximately 5-6 blocks to the Zion Police Department. There will be space for each organization, business, group to place displays, literature, banners, etc. to explain who they are, what they do and what they provide in the community. If possible, try to wear matching T-shirts or something else to help people identify your group. This is a FREE event!
Walkers will meet at the Bandshell next to the Zion Park District Leisure Center.
The walk will proceed west around Dowie Memorial Drive, cross Gabriel Avenue, and continue west to Gilead Avenue. The walk will be led by a police squad car. There will be road closures and Community Service Officers and/or ESDA personnel to insure the safety of all participants.
Participating organizations/groups/clubs/business will be setting up booths/tables in the 2200 block of Salem Boulevard. Below is a map for your convenience. Booths/tables should be set up on the North & South edges of the grass boulevard. This will allow room for some performances during the event.
Each group is responsible to bring their own booth/table. Please provide literature that explains what you do in and for the community. Booths/tables may be set up as early as 4:30 pm on 9/12/19.
Police Officers and Community Service Officers will be present to assist you and to watch over your booth/table while you participate in the walk. Please make sure that you have secured any loose flyers/items so that they don’t blow away. You are welcome to leave a member of your group or organization with your table or booth while others walk. Please feel free to promote any fund raising activities your organization has.
Once all the walkers have reached the end of the walk, there will be time to visit with groups/organizations at their booths/tables. Please take time to meet one another and get to know other individuals & groups that are working to make Zion a better place.
As a reminder, the walk is FREE. Please be at the Band Shell because we will be starting promptly at 6:00 pm.
