DESCRIPTION:The annual Community of Character Walk has enjoyed great success! The Zion Police Department and the Zion Park District are pleased to announce that the 6th Annual Community of Character Walk will take place on Thursday\, 9/12/2019\, at 6:00 pm. \n \nThe 6th Annual Zion Community of Character Walk is\, once again\, an opportunity to: \n\nCelebrate all the good things happening in Zion!\nCome together as a community in support of Zion!\nMeet neighbors and make new friends with people who are also working to make Zion a better place!\n\nThe walk will start at the Bandshell next to the Zion Park District Leisure Center. Participants will then walk west approximately 5-6 blocks to the Zion Police Department. There will be space for each organization\, business\, group to place displays\, literature\, banners\, etc. to explain who they are\, what they do and what they provide in the community. If possible\, try to wear matching T-shirts or something else to help people identify your group. This is a FREE event! \nWalk Instructions\nWalkers will meet at the Bandshell next to the Zion Park District Leisure Center. \nThe walk will proceed west around Dowie Memorial Drive\, cross Gabriel Avenue\, and continue west to Gilead Avenue. The walk will be led by a police squad car. There will be road closures and Community Service Officers and/or ESDA personnel to insure the safety of all participants. \nParticipating organizations/groups/clubs/business will be setting up booths/tables in the 2200 block of Salem Boulevard. Below is a map for your convenience. Booths/tables should be set up on the North & South edges of the grass boulevard. This will allow room for some performances during the event. \nEach group is responsible to bring their own booth/table. Please provide literature that explains what you do in and for the community. Booths/tables may be set up as early as 4:30 pm on 9/12/19. \nPolice Officers and Community Service Officers will be present to assist you and to watch over your booth/table while you participate in the walk. Please make sure that you have secured any loose flyers/items so that they don’t blow away. You are welcome to leave a member of your group or organization with your table or booth while others walk. Please feel free to promote any fund raising activities your organization has. \nOnce all the walkers have reached the end of the walk\, there will be time to visit with groups/organizations at their booths/tables. Please take time to meet one another and get to know other individuals & groups that are working to make Zion a better place. \nAs a reminder\, the walk is FREE. DESCRIPTION:22nd ANNUAL COALITION CADDIE CLASSIC GOLF OUTING \nFRIDAY\, AUGUST 16\,  2019 \nShiloh Park Golf Course \n  \nThe Coalition for Healthy Communities invites you to support our 22nd Annual Coalition Caddie Classic Golf outing. Golfers from across Zion\, Winthrop Harbor and Beach Park will participate in this truly unique event\, which pairs golfers with young people from our community serving as their caddies. The interaction between the two allows for conversation and mentoring.  Those who have participated say that it is truly a special day. This event provides funding for the Coalition’s many health\, wellness and social issue programs across the Zion-Benton community.  Some of our programs are noted below: \n  \nThe Community Wellness Task Force was established to encourage healthy lifestyles by our community members in Zion\, Winthrop Harbor\, and Beach Park. The objectives of this task force support: \n\nRaising awareness of wellness issues related to nutrition\, exercise\, social habits\, and general health.\nProvide insights and activities that allow individual community members to learn about\, reflect on\, and commit to healthier habits as the first step toward a longer\, healthier life. The ever popular Community of Character Walk on September 12\, 2019 is another project to support the community of character initiative.\n\n  \nThe Literacy Task Force seeks to promote literacy within our community—to create a community of readers—and increase community awareness of existing literacy resources. See the zbchc.com website for a map of 15 little free libraries this task force has brought to the tri-community with the help of the Meemic Foundation. And a host of other programs to support this mission. \nThe Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force is our eldest work group which has been the catalyst for several self-sustaining substance abuse prevention programs. The primary goal of this task force is to expand new initiatives in order to reduce substance abuse in the Zion-Benton community. Programs include Healthy Youth\, Zion Central Middle School Communication Campaign\, Prescription Drug Take Back\, Social Norms Campaign\, Teen Court and Underage Drinking Prevention. \nThe Coalition for Healthy Communities believes there is untapped leadership potential in the Zion-Benton area. The Zion-Benton Leadership Academy identifies\, assists and empowers individuals to become active and inspiring contributors in our community. The Coalition envisions community leadership reflecting the diversity of our community and that a culture change will result in leadership development\, life-long learning and giving back in the Zion-Benton community.                \n  \nYour support of the Caddie Classic helps ensure that the Coalition can continue these initiatives.
